Daily Devotion: Eve

Okay we are going to do a little study. I started looking at women of the Bible with the purpose of finding one main thought from each. How can each of them help me be a better wife or mother? We may spend more than one day on each woman...we will see how this goes. I would love your imput. You can make comments here or on facebook for those of you that are reading this there.
Gen. 2:20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
What one word do you think of when studying Eve?
Mine is companion.

Cashew Chicken

This recipe is from my mother. I remember my grandma making this. I believe it was my grandpa's favorite and she would make it on his birthday every year. Feel free to send me your recipes to post. My e-mail is cbruskimk@yahoo.com.

Springfield, MO cashew chicken.
6 whole chicken breasts
2 eggs
1 bottle planters peanut oil
1/2 cup milk
salt and pepper flour
Remove chicken from bone and cut into small pieces. Flour and let sit in flour 15 minutes. Mix eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Roll floured chicken in egg mixture. Roll in flour again. Let sit 10 minutes. Deep fry in peanut oil.
Oyster Sauce
4 chicken bouillon cubes
4 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
2 cups water
2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup cashew nuts
2 tsp. oyster sauce
3 or 4 chopped green onions
Boil water and dissolve bouillon cubes. Add sugar, salt and oyster sauce to chicken broth. Mix cornstarch in small amount of cold water, and add while stirring. Cook until thick, add cashews and green onion just before serving.
(I have bought oyster soup to use for the sauce in the past. If you don't feel like fussing with the chicken, you can use nuggets as a substitute. Of course it is not as good, but not as much work either.)

Daily Mini Devotion

Isaiah 40:29
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

This is just an encouraging verse to think about when we are struggling. This is another good verse to memorize so we can recall it when we are having a bad day.

Daily Recipe

You probably have noticed that my recipes are nothing fancy. With 5 kids and everything else that goes on here I keep things simple. Most of them are really cheap as well. This is one of the super simple ones.

Cabbage and Kielbasa

1 head cabbage, cut up
butter or margarine
1 pkg kielbasa
1 pkg egg noodles
While boiling noodles in one pot, cook cabbage in butter (I don't measure...you will probably need half a stick or so). You will need a large skillet or an electric one to fit the cabbage. It will cook down. Cook it to desired tenderness (I like it a little crispy). While all that is going cut up the kielbasa. I cut it in half lengthwise and then slice it. Cook the keilbasa. When everything is done combine the drained noodles, cabbage and kielbasa. Add salt and pepper and enjoy.

Daily Mini Devotion

Ephesians 4:1-2
I THEREFORE, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

If you are a wife and/or mother, that is your vocation. Obviously there are other things we do as service to God, but the most important is our home. We are to walk worthy at home.
It would be good for us as mothers and wives to strive for longsuffering and forbearance with our families.

Daily Mini Devotion

Proverbs 25:28
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
We have to learn to control our own spirit. My husband cringes every time he hears someone say something like "they made me mad". It is up to you whether you get upset about something. If we don't have control of our spirit it is a wide open door for the devil to plant doubt and other thoughts that are only going to discourage us more. He wants to keep us down so we cannot be productive for the Lord. Put walls up...decide to have a sweet, happy spirit.

Daily Mini Devotion

Psalm 71:8
Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
This would be a great (and easy) verse to memorize. Pray that God will bring it to your memory each time something negative begins to flow from your mouth. I am sure this would revolutionize our home life. What a blessing it would be for our children to hear us praising God continually.

Daily Recipe

Tuna Noodles
1 can Tuna Fish
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
Milk (1 soup can full)
1 to 1 1/2 package wide egg noodles
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Soy Sauce 5-6 dashes
Salt & Pepper to taste
While cooking noodles, combine all of the other ingredients in another saucepan and start heating that through. Drain the noodles when done, combine with the tuna mixture and serve.

This is a really simple, cheap recipe I use for lunch. The kids love it.

Daily Mini Devotion

Psalm 56:9
When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

I love the last part of this verse. What a great thought, the all powerful God that created the universe... is for me. He wants me to make it. He cares about me. Isn't that such a comforting thought!

Daily Mini Devotion

Psalm 40:1
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
God does hear us. Even when we don’t feel anyone listening just wait patiently. God is there, He is listening and knows what is best and when the perfect time is to answer.

Daily Recipe

Salisbury Steak with Gemelli
2 eggs
3/4 cup bread crumbs
1 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp pepper
1 tsp minced garlic
1 1/2 lb ground beef
4 T flour
2 cup chicken broth
2 T ketchup
1 tsp worchestershire sauce
mushrooms (If I use them I serve them seperate since only 2 of us like them)
Hot cooked gemelli or spiral pasta
In a large bowl, combine the egg, bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, pepper and garlic. Mix in beef and shape into patties. Cook patties in 1T oil. Remove and keep warm

Stir in flour into drippings from patties until blended. Gradually stir in the broth, ketchup, and worchestershire sauce. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 min. or until thickened.
Return patties to the skillet. Simmer until heated through. Serve over gemelli or other spiral pasta.

This feeds our big family pretty good and it is fairly cheap. I usually make extra sauce, just use butter instead of the drippings. This is not real healthy but it tastes good :)

Daily Devotion

Ephesians 5:1
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

This verse just jumped out to me today. My 3 older children were at the neighbors house. Since there was no one to entertain my 1 ½ year old, she followed me around the house. Every where I went there was a little person right by my feet. She does this often and I find myself stumbling over her a lot. If you have small children I am sure you can relate. Are we so close to the Lord that he stumbles over us? We should be constantly depending on the Lord.

Daily Recipe

Ginger Glazed Chicken Breasts

1 lb boneless chicken breasts
3 T butter or margarine, divided
2 T brown sugar
1/8 tsp ground ginger
1 pkg (14 oz.) frozen baby carrots, partially thawed
½ c chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste

Season chicken with salt and pepper. In large nonstick skillet, melt 1 T butter over medium-high heat and cook chicken. Remove to serving platter; keep warm.

Over medium heat, melt 2 T butter, brown sugar and ginger, stirring frequently until sugar is dissolved. Add carrots and broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer stirring frequently, 5 minutes, until sauce thickens slightly and carrots are heated through. To serve, spoon sauce and carrots over chicken.

Daily Devotion

Proverbs 19:14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

Here is Webster’s 1828 dictionary’s definition of prudent.
PRU'DENT, a. Cautious; circumspect; practically wise; careful of the consequences of enterprises, measures or actions; cautious not to act when the end is of doubtful utility, or probably impracticable.
What a great goal…to be a prudent wife and mother. So often we act and react through emotions. We need to be cautious of the words that we speak and the actions take especially toward our family. So often we put on an act around others and treat our family badly. Our family is the most important group of people that we influence. They should see our best, not our worst. I like the definition “practically wise”. We have a lot to live up to with just one verse.

Blog Revival

I have decided to revive this blog that I had started at one of the difficult times in my life. I want to use it to be an encouragement to other ladies. Sometimes we get so consumed with life and our struggles that we forget that others need encouraging. Please join me in being an encouragement. I have posted my e-mail on the side so you can send devotions to be posted. I will be posting one devotion and a recipe or household tip every day.
