Psalm 34:1

Psalm 34:1
I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
I dare say this is a verse we all need to work on. The Bible also says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Until your heart is full of praise it will not be continually in your mouth. Start each prayer with praise. Maybe it would help to keep a praise journal. Each time you start to grumble, think of something to praise God for. Pretty soon it will be the first thing you think about.

Mini Taco Pizza

This is what we had for lunch today...yum!

Mini Taco Pizzas
Fry bread (recipe below)
1 can refried beans
1/2 lb ground beef
3-4 Tbl water
lettuce
cheese
sour cream

Make the fry bread recipe below (I got 7 out of one recipe). If you want to save time you can buy flat bread.
Cook ground beef, drain. Stir in refried beans and water. You want just enough water to make the meat and bean mixture spreadable.
Spread mixture on fry bread. Add cheese, lettuce, sour cream and any other toppings you would like (onions, olives, etc.).
Enjoy!

Fry Bread:
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon shortening
1 cup boiling water
2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Make the Fry Bread: Combine dry ingredients. Add shortening and rub into flour mixture with hands or use a pastry cutter, cut in until well broken up and
combined. Pour boiling water into the flour mixture all at once, mixing with fork until mixture forms a ball. If the mixture is too dry, add very hot tap
water 1 tablespoon at a time. If it's too wet, add a little flour at a time and knead in. As soon as a ball is formed, cover with plastic wrap and allow
to rest at room temperature for at least 45 minutes. Pull off pieces of dough the size of a lime and sprinkle with flour. On a floured board with floured
hands and a rolling pin, flatten out the dough into a 5 or 6 inch circle. Poke a small hole in the center with a finger or chop stick or something at
allow bread to fry evenly. Add disc to the hot oil (about 375°F) and fry for about 2 minutes on each side. Bread will puff up and bubble. Repeat with each
remaining ball of dough.

Devotion - Proverbs 24:16

Proverbs 24:16
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Just men fall. You are not a failure for falling, you fail when you refuse to get up.

I Samuel 30:6

I Sam. 30:6
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for is daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
I don't believe that discouragement and depression is a sin. Job got discouraged and God called him perfect and upright. But I do believe that staying in that state is very bad for our spiritual condition and could possibly lead to sin. We need to be able to encourage ourselves in the Lord. Find a few verses that are encouraging and post them around the house. Make a list of blessings and read it when you get down. Pray and thank the Lord for how good he is. You won't be able to stay down for long. Ask God to help you find what will work for you.

Devotion - Psalm 16:8

Psalm 16:8
I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Just as Peter was able to walk on water, so will we be able to make it through our trials and general life by keeping our eyes on the Lord. It is so easy to get wrapped up in life and leave the Lord out. Keep Him before you and you will be unmoveable.

so sorry

I am sorry for missing a few days. Eventually I will get a routine going here.
I am going to be changing the recipes. I am going to share a recipe once a week. I am thinking about different things to do daily. Please be patient with me, it may take me some time to get things going the way I would like to.

Devotion - sweet spirit cont.

Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
I have heard this verse over and over but until today didn't think about my having a merry heart being a medicine to others and not just myself. According to the verse we looked at yesterday, pleasant words are healthy. The verse before this verse (17:21) talks about begetting a fool. I never put the two verses together. Perhaps this is how not to raise a fool. As a mother my merry heart/sweet spirit is medicine for my children. Sort of like a fertilizer. If I have a broken spirit around them it is going to eat them up inside.

Devotion - sweet spirit

I know I have been all over the place with these devotions. I did intend on doing an ongoing study but I can hardly get a sentance out without changing the subject when I talk (really frustrating to my husband) and I guess this is going to go the same way. I am going to jump to Proverbs today.
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as and honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
I guess this verse stuck out to me today because I was spoke with someone a few days ago about the struggle she has with yelling at her children. We need to be careful when dealing with our children. Be pleasant to your family (and others as well). I want my children to have sweet, healthy spirits so I need to have a sweet spirit to them. The Lord challenged me with this today so I thought I would pass it on :)
I also need to have a sweet spirit toward my husband. It is feeding the marriage healthy food!
I have not been married as long as some of you (we are going on 12 years) but I have learned that cross words get me nowhere. Even if my arguement has merit, I get a lot further if I approach the issue sweetly...though this is difficult sometimes I must say.

Chili with noodles

I had never heard of putting noodles in chili until moving to Wisconsin. I am sure others do it but I have heard it is a Wisconsin thing. Here is my chili recipe. It is altered a bit from the original version. It is super simple.
1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 can kidney beans
1 can chili beans
3 cans tomato soup
1 can diced tomatoes with green chilis
1/2 tsp cumin
1 T chili powder
1 tsp minced garlic
elbow noodles (about 3/4 to 1 pound I guess...I just eyeball it)

Cook ground beef. Put beef and all other ingredients except the noodles in a crockpot. Cook on low for 4-6 hours. Cook noodles and add to chili. I do this at the end but if you like the noodles to absorb more of the flavor you can continue cooking for a half and hour or so. I would rather have the noodles be more firm so I serve right after adding the noodles.

Devotion - Rachel

Jeremiah 31:13-16
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamantation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
Thus saith the LORD: Refrain they voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

Rachel, being the "mother" of the twelve tribes so to speak is a representation here I think of all Israel mourning her people in captivity. There is nothing wrong with mourning, there is a time for sorrow, but God wants to comfort us. We need to let God do the comforting. This was made real to me when my dad passed away. The comfort that I felt from the Lord was amazing. He is still comforting me. I am sure you have heard the term "let go and let God". That is what we need to do with our grief. So often, we take matters into our own hands and reach for worldly answers to comfort. Rachel herself did this, as she was desperately wanting children, by turning to her handmade to bear her children. What she did not know was that God had great blessings for her if she would just wait. God used her sons greatly. God will cause us to rejoice if we just hang on. This goes right along with the last devotion. Don't give up before the blessings come. You will end up wasting your trials. Make them worth while, hang on, rejoicing is coming.

Prayer Request

Please pray for my neighbor, Bill. He almost died this week and that has opened his heart to the Lord. He is on the verge of salvation. Please pray that God will continue to work on him.

Pizza Toast

This may be overly simple to post but it is one of my kids favorite lunches.
Toast bread, add a little bit of spaghetti or pizza sauce. You don't need much, you don't want the bread to get soggy. Cover with your choice of shredded cheese. (I usually use a mexican blend)
Add pepperoni. Broil until cheese is melted. Obviously you can add your favorite pizza toppings.
I have used the long loaves of french bread and sliced it kind of thick. If you do that then you don't need to toast it first.

A thought

I am sorry that I have been away. I probably will not be posting on Sundays as they are quite busy. My husband has one day off every other week and that was yesterday. When he is home I am not on the computer much. Today, my neighbor had a crisis and I have been with her. I will post a recipe tomorrow.
As for the devotion, I am just going to share a bit of my heart.
There is a statement that I have heard often. It is that sometimes God will bring a trial into your life so you can use it to help someone else through theirs. The last time I heard that I was deep in the middle of hardship and that didn't seem like a good answer to a trial. I surrender my trials to the Lord and ask him to use them but that use just didn't seem like a good use. Now I am on the other side of the trial, still coming out but seeing the light. Let me tell you when someone is standing infront of you with tears coming down their face and you can say "I have been there and God can not only bring you through this but make you better for it" and be an encouragement to them, it is all worth while. There are many reasons we go through trials one is in fact that we can help others through theirs. Take heart if you are in the midst of one now. God has something for you. Don't give up before he brings the blessings.

Daily Devotion - Job

We will take a quick break from the women of the Bible for this thought from my wonderful mother...
I've been reading the book of Job because our church theme this year is "stand firm in the faith". I want to read how others did it. But as I have been reading about Job's amazing experience, I noticed that when he was the most discouraged, he wanted to give up and die. He didn't want to go on. I wanted to say, "but Job, I know the end of your story--God is going to bless you beyond measure. Just wait!" Conversely, I don't know the end of my story. Events in my life have left me very sad, but God has richly blessed, and I don't know the end of the story...God still has blessings for me and is using me in ways I never dreamed of. If you are discouraged-don't give up. You don't know the end of the story.

Daily Devotion - Rebekah

Genesis 24:67
And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
Sometimes we forget that our husbands need comforting at times. Mine is mister tough guy but he needs comfort too.

Hamburger Stroganoff

This is a triple recipe. I make it and divide it in thirds and freeze two of them for another meal.
It is also good to make if you have a lot of people to feed. It is super simple if you are in a pinch.
3 lbs. ground beef
1-2 onions
6 cans cream of mushroom soup (I use cream of chicken instead)
3 cups milk
3 cups sour cream (I use 1-2 cups)
egg noodles

Brown ground beef and onion. Add the rest of the ingredients, simer 10 minutes.
Serve over cooked egg noodles.

Daily Devotion - Sarah

I Peter 3:6
Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
The verses just before this one talk about having a meek and quiet spirit, being in subjection to our husbands.
The one thing that I learn from Sarah is that she followed her husband. Even with the mistakes she made God honors her for following Abraham. Her following sometimes got her in trouble but I am sure that Abraham had to answer for those times, not Sarah. This does not mean that the husband can be a dictator, but he is most definitely supposed to be the leader.

There is so much more to be learned from these women we are taking brief looks at. I challenge you to study each one and glean from them good habits.

Skillet Chicken Supper

½ c flour
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp pepper
1 fryer chicken (3-4 lbs) cut up
2 T vegetable oil
1 ¾ c water, divided
½ c soy sauce
½ tsp dried oregano
3 medium red potatoes, cut into 1” cubes
3 large carrots, cut in to 1” pieces
3 celery ribs, cut into 1” pieces

In a resealable plastic bag, combine flour, garlic powder and pepper. Add chicken, one piece at a time, and shake to coat; set the remaining flour mixture aside. In a large skillet, cook chicken in oil until browned on all sides; drain. Combine 1 ¼ c water, soy sauce and oregano; pour over chicken. Add vegetables. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until chicken juices run clear. Remove chicken and vegetables; keep warm. Combine reserved flour mixture and remaining water until smooth; add to the cooking juices. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Serve with the chicken and vegetables.

Daily Devotion - Noah's wife

Gen. 7:7
And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
The Bible does not tell us anything about Noah's wife. There are some assumptions that I believe can be safely made. We as women can be quite stubborn. I can't believe that she went in the ark unwillingly. She and her son's and her son's wives, I believe, were all supportive of Noah. Noah's wife must have been a good woman to raise son's that went right along with what God told Noah to do. They probably did not hear the "revelation" from God about the rain. They trusted their father. Had Noah's wife badmouthed Noah to her children they may not have trusted him. We need to be supportive of our husbands and very careful about what our children hear about their father.

Lasagna Casserole

12 oz bag egg noodles
1 lb ground beef
1 jar spaghetti sauce
24 oz cottage cheese
16 oz. sour cream
4 oz. shredded mozzarella (I usually add a little more)

Brown beef; drain. Cook noodles, drain. Mix noodles, sour cream, cottage cheese, and beef. In a 9x13 inch pan spread a layer of spaghetti sauce. Spread a layer of beef/noodle mixture. Alternate until all ingredients are used ending with sauce. Top w/ cheese. Cover w/ foil and bake at 350 until heated through. If short on time I just mix it all on the stove and heat through.

Daily Devotion - Eve

Gen. 2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Not only should we be a companion to our husband (get interested in what he is interested in), but we should complement him. I don't mean give him complements which would be a good idea but our strengths should cover his weeknesses and visa versa. The Bible says we are one flesh. When people see you, they see your husband. Are you a good representation of him?

Stuffed Shells

1 package jumbo pasta shells
4 cups large curd cottage cheese
12 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 pinch garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried parsley
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Cook shells according to package directions. Place in cold water to stop cooking. Drain.
Mix together cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, eggs, and garlic powder. Pulverize the dried herbs, and stir into the cheese mixture. Stuff mixture into the shells. Spread 1/3 of spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a baking pan. Place shells open side up, and close together in pan. Spread remaining sauce over top, and sprinlke with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

I am so sorry that I did not get a recipe or devotion posted yesterday or today. I have been dealing with sick kids. Hopefully I will get posting again tomorrow.
